Prayer to Recognize Signs of Stress in Infants
Tip 44: Recognize Signs of Stress in Infants
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Give us eyes to notice and hearts that are sensitive to the needs of infants. Help us recognize changes in sleep, feeding, crying, behavior, and other signs that may indicate stress. Give caregivers wisdom to respond with compassion rather than frustration. Help us seek appropriate support when an infant’s needs require additional care.
Amen.
Scripture Reflection (KJV)
“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself.” — Proverbs 22:3
God calls us to be attentive and wise. Infants communicate distress through their bodies and behaviors because they cannot yet explain what they are experiencing with words. Caregivers who notice changes in sleep, feeding, crying, or behavior can respond early with comfort and appropriate support.
Practice / Task
Spend a few minutes observing the infant without immediately trying to change their behavior. Notice changes in sleep, feeding, crying, body movements, or temperament.
Ask yourself:
“What might this behavior be communicating?”
